5 Ways to Keep Skin Soft and Hydrated During Winter

The weather outside may be frightful, but your skin doesn't have to be. Just follow these 5 tips to keep your skin soft and hydrated all winter long.

The weather outside may be frightful, but your skin doesn't have to be. Just follow these five tips to keep your skin soft and hydrated all winter long.

1) Use a Humidifier

Your home might be cozy and toasty thanks to the heater, but dry air can massively dehydrate your skin. Using a humidifier at home helps to add moisture back into the air, which will keep your skin from drying out. Adding moisture to the air is important if you want to add moisture to your skin!

If you don't have a humidifier, you can still get the same effect by keeping lots of plants around the house or leaving bowls of water by sunny windows to get evaporated. You can even put an oven-safe bowl of water on top of your radiator.

2) Switch to a Moisturizing Cleanser

This one is especially important if you're prone to dry skin and premature skin aging. Some cleansers can strip your skin of natural oils and actually make it drier. Choose a moisturizing cleanser so that your skin doesn't suffer from over-drying and irritation. Additonally, it's important to wash your face the right way.

Our Exfoliating Cleansing Lotion is perfect for winter as it is soap-free, suitable for all skin types, and reduces excess oils without over-drying. Formulated with oat proteins, vitamins, and AHA (Lactic Acid,) this cleanser gently exfoliates to remove dead skin cells, dirt, and makeup, and moisturizes the skin as well, leaving it healthy, glowing, and soft, no matter what the season.

Bonus Tip: Applying our Anti-Aging Toner morning and night will help in healing and tightening your skin, thus aiding it in retaining moisture more efficiently. So, cleanse, tone, and moisturize to make sure your skin gets everything it needs during these cold months!

3) Invest in a Rich Moisturizer

During winter months, you need a heavy-duty moisturizer, day and night, that's great at its job. Look for products that contain essential vitamins and antioxidants as they will be able to hydrate and nourish the skin.

Adding our Intense Moisture Anti-Aging Cream to your winter skincare routine is a good way to ensure deep hydration, reduced inflammation, fewer fine lines and wrinkles, and renewed skin strength and tone. And the best part is that this moisturizer, which contains Vitamins A, E, and B5 along with Oat Kernel and Comfrey Root, is suitable for all seasons since it provides intense hydration whilst being lightweight and non-greasy.

Add a little extra moisturizer to areas of the skin that are particularly dry such as your smile lines, cheeks, forehead, hands, elbows, knees, and heels. For men, our Men's Face Cream will be particularly useful during the frosty season, as it has a formula strong enough to soothe, soften and nourish tougher skin, but is still gentle enough for every day use.

4) Avoid Using Hot Water in the Bath or Shower

Yes, we know that hot water feels luxurious on those cold, cold days but it can be really drying to your skin! Hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and irritated (and even speeding up your skin's aging process in the long run). Instead, try using lukewarm water when you shower or bath. It's gentler on your skin, so you won't have to worry about over-drying.

Additionally, remember to apply your toner and moisturizer within a few minutes of getting out of the shower, when your skin is still damp. This will help your skin retain as much moisture as possible!

5) Drink Plenty of Water

It seems like drinking water is the answer to everything. But it's true, drinking lots of water is an important part of keeping your skin soft and hydrated in winter!

Water helps to flush out toxins from your body that can cause skin problems like redness and itching. Make sure you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day for maximum hydration. If you don't enjoy plain water, try jazzing it up with some pieces of lemon or cucumber.

The key point to note here is that your body shouldn't be dehydrated, because that will result in the skin being dehydrated as well. Although drinking extra water doesn't do anything for skin, drinking enough water will ensure that your skin maintains its elasticity and retains moisture.

By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to having soft and hydrated skin all winter long! With just a little effort, you can say goodbye to dry, flaky skin and hello to a radiant complexion and younger-looking skin. Remember that a good skincare routine, in all seasons, is essential for keeping your skin looking healthy. Don't hesitate to switch up your routine slightly as the weather and seasons change.

By taking simple steps such as using a humidifier, switching to a moisturizing cleanser, investing in a rich moisturizer, avoiding hot water, and drinking plenty of water, you can have beautiful, soft, and hydrated skin all winter long. So, don't let the cold weather get you down – instead, invest in your skin and make it look and feel its best!
