Oily Summer Skin and 6 Ways to Fix It

Oily skin is annoying, and it only gets worse in the summer. Sure, it comes from hormones and genetics and certain skin types, but add to that humidity, heat and sweat, and you’re likely to deal with breakouts, too. But believe it or not, both of these issues are manageable in the summer. Here’s our advice…

Don’t wash your face too much

When your summer skin is oily and slick, and even prone to breakouts, it can be tempting to wash your face every chance you get. But resist the urge. Washing too frequently can trick your skin into thinking it’s dry and needs to produce more oil as a result. Stick to washing once in the morning and once before bed, and keep harsh exfoliating to a minimum. Instead, try a gentle exfoliator like the Exfoliating AHA Cleansing Lotion that uses alpha hydroxy acids to gently wash away dirt, dead skin and makeup.

Choose a natural acne-fighting product

No one likes dealing with acne prone skin, but it happens to the best of us, likely more so in the summer due to heat, increased oily skin and sweat. If you deal with breakouts, choose a product that will specifically target pesky and stubborn blemishes, rather than hope they just diminish on their own. Think you’ve tried everything out there? Why not go the natural route and try a natural Acne Clarifying Serum that uses Tea Tree Oil to clear up unsightly pimples and blemishes.

Wear less makeup

Sometimes, we just need to let our skin breathe. Take the makeup off this summer and leave it off. Heavy makeup can sit on skin and clog pores, and even if it’s oil free, it can cause our skin to produce too much oil. But if you’d prefer to have some type of skin coverage, opt instead for a light BB cream or tinted moisturizer, preferably one with SPF!

Don’t forget the sunscreen

Speaking of SPF protection, don’t leave the house without at least SPF 30 protection — this tip applies year round, folks. More specifically, don’t leave the house without mineral sunscreen protection that contains Zinc and Titanium Dioxide, minerals that are known for naturally absorbing oils on the skin. So not only will you responsibly be protecting your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays, but you’ll be helping out the oily issue, too!

Lighten up on moisturizer

The eb5 5-in-1 Facial Cream is an amazing moisturizer for all skin types, all year round. But if it feels too heavy in the summer months, when skin is a bit more oily, simply use less. You’ll still be moisturized and you’ll still receive its awesome benefits, but it will let those pores take an extra breath of fresh air.

Have oil blotters on hand

If you’re naturally oily (summer, fall, winter or spring) simply invest in some oil blotters. They are tiny little sheets that physically remove oil from your face, giving you mattified bliss instantly. But if you follow the tips and tricks above, you probably won’t need to use them so often.
